Human Resource Management plays a crucial role in the development of an organisation by overseeing and implementing all policies and activities regarding the welfare of its employees. The successful implementation of these human resource policies largely depends on the extent to which these employees are satisfied with these policies. The study, therefore, sought to examine the implementation of promotion policy in the University of Cape Coast, using primary data from Senior Members Section at the University of Cape Coast. The study used the mixed method approach and administered 70 questionnaires and conducted in–depth interviews with 11 academic staff. Results from the quantitative part were presented in tables, graphs and charts, whereas results from the qualitative part were presented in quotations and narratives. The results showed that, generally, senior members have knowledge about the promotion criteria and procedures. Their knowledge varied by sex, current academic rank and years of experience. It was also seen that the promotion process takes a longer period and delays when the applicants had problems with their HoDs/Dean/Provost. Senior members were satisfied with the promotion process although they believed it was inconsistent in its application and sometimes not fair. It was therefore, recommended that the University management and Appointments and Promotions Board should put in place deadlines to prevent delays in the promotion process. The Appointments and Promotions Board should be consistent in the application of the promotion policy to ensure equitable treatment of all applicants.en_US
