Title: Impact of Physical Work Environment on Performance among Teachers in Efutu Circuit of Cape Coast Metropolis

Abstract: Physical work environment is regarded as one of the key components of employees work environment. Thus, the physical environment affects how employees, including teachers interact and perform tasks. The study was conducted primarily to find out the impact of physical environment on performance among teachers in Efutu Circuit of Cape Coast Metropolis. The study targeted teachers in Efutu Circuit of Cape Coast Metropolis. Descriptive research design, backed by quantitative research approach, was employed to survey 193 teachers in Efutu Circuit of Cape Coast Metropolis. 130 respondents were selected through simple random sampling and surveyed through the administration of structured questionnaires. A Cronbach;s alpha of 0.800 was recorded for the internal consistency of the instrument. Inferential and descriptive statistics were used for the data analysis. Data processing was conducted through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (Version 24.0) software. It was discovered that majority of the respondents indicated that the nature of their overall physical work environment was good. Multiple regression was applied to assess the effect of physical work environment on teachers’ performance. Infrastructure conditions, lighting conditions, ventilation and noise jointly accounted for a statistically significant weak correlation with teachers’ performance at Efutu Circuit of Cape Coast Metropolis. The study recommended that management of schools in Efutu Circuit of Cape Coast Metropolis should continue to use those physical work environment indicators to improve and sustain the performance of teachers at the workplace since it causes a positive variance in teachers’ performance.
