dc.description.abstractThe study sought to assess the effect of “perceived external prestige on employees’ attitude at the Ghana National Fire Service.” The specific objectives the study were to; examine the effect of perceived external prestige on employee’s commitment on the Ghana National Fire Service; assess the effect of perceived external prestige influences employee’s turnover intentions on the Ghana National Fire Service; assess the effect of perceived external prestige on employees’ job satisfaction the Ghana National Fire Service. The study was a survey study, which adopted a quantitative methodology, based on a descriptive study approach. The population considered for the study was two hundred (200) fire officers, out of a sample size of 132, 113 officers responded. The results indicated that there is a significant and strong positive relationship between employee’s commitment and perceived external prestige. The results showed that perceived external prestige has a negative effect on turnover intentions. The results also showed that perceived external prestige has a negative significant influence on employees’ job satisfaction. This study concludes that perceived external prestige is the largest predictor of fire officers’ turnover intentions within the Cape Coast metropolis. In addition, it predicts employee commitment and job satisfaction. Therefore, the study recommends that management of the GNFS in Cape Coast increase the perception of prestige among their staffs by communicating organisational and individual achievements internally through recognition ceremonies, emails and other notices.en_US
