LIBRARY DEPARTMENTS

The Library has three (3) Departments, Sections and Units as follows:

CLIENTS SERVICES DEPARTMENT

The Department seeks to render diverse and innovative services to meet the unique needs of library clients, and periodically evaluate its resources and services to remain relevant to the changing needs of users. An important component of the Client Services Department is that of faculty liaisons. This component includes direct contact with the respective academic departments and individual Academic Staff to promote awareness of library, collections and services.

Vision

To become the driving force in ensuring accessibility, inclusiveness, and satisfaction in the Library’s information provision to all persons with varied information needs.

Mission

The Client Services Department shall commit the human and material resources of the Library to the utmost satisfaction of clients in all areas of their information needs.
It consists of four Sections namely;
• Reference and Students Support
• Reader and Circulation
• Persons with Special Needs Section
• Satellite Libraries sections.

DEPARTMENT OF COLLECTION MANAGEMENT AND TECHNICAL SERVICES (CMTS)

The Department of Collection Management and Technical Services is a division of the Library responsible for the collection building and management activities as well as technical services of the Library. Department ensures effective collection development and management activities through internationally accepted guidelines, and standards that will make available and accessible materials with relevant information.

Vision

To be a Department that will ensure effective collection development and management activities through upholding internationally accepted guidelines and standards that will make available and accessible materials with relevant information.

Mission

To acquire, process, preserve and disseminate information sources in line with prevailing international standards that will promote quick access and exchange of current, authoritative and, accurate information.

The Department has four (4) Sections and five (5) Units. The sections are;
• Acquisition, Preservation and Curriculum Analysis
• Cataloguing, Bindery and Photocopying
• Periodicals Section and Special Collection
• Cataloguing, Bindery and Photocopying Section

The Cataloguing, Bindery and Photocopying Section have two units namely;
• Bindery Unit
• Photocopying Unit.

The Special Collection Section also has three units, these are;
• Gallery Unit
• Africana Unit
• Development Information Unit.

DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH SUPPORT
Preamble

The Department of Information Technology and Research Support is responsible for managing the Information Technological infrastructure of the Library for optimal functioning of all library services and resources. This department works in collaboration with ICT Directorate and conforms to the ICT policy of the University.

Mission

To acquire, process, preserve and disseminate information sources in line with prevailing international standards that will promote quick access and exchange of current, authoritative and, accurate information.

The Department comprises four (4) sections which are:
• Library Information Technology Infrastructure Support
• Learning and Research Support
• Electronic Resources Management/Digital Services and Information Literacy Programme
• Distance Library Services Section.
